Underperforming despite training hard?

The Inner Game Reset is 1:1 coaching for athletes who are frustrated with underperforming and want to enjoy showing up fully in their sport again.

When Effort and Ability Stop Translating Into Performance

Most athletes who find their way here aren’t lazy, uncommitted, or lacking discipline.

They care deeply about their sport.
They train consistently.
They want to perform.

What’s happening instead is quieter — and harder to fix on your own.

  • Pressure increases as expectations rise

  • Pressure fuels overthinking

  • Overthinking pulls you out of the moment

  • Presence drops — performance follows

  • Trust erodes, so playing it safe feels smarter

Over time, enjoyment fades. Not because you don’t care — but because caring starts to feel heavy.

This is the cycle The Inner Game Reset exists to break.

This Isn’t a Motivation Problem

If this were about motivation, you’d already have fixed it.

What’s actually happening is a shift in how you relate to:

  • pressure

  • mistakes

  • outcomes

  • yourself when it matters

The result isn’t dramatic failure — it’s consistent underperformance.

And most athletes don’t want to quit.

They just don’t want to look back and wonder:

“What if I’d really gone for it?”

What Is The Inner Game Reset?

The Inner Game Reset is private 1:1 coaching for athletes who feel disconnected from their sport and know they’re underperforming relative to their ability.

What This Coaching Works On

A grounded, focused coaching process designed to help you understand how you experience pressure, how you respond to mistakes, and how much you trust yourself when it counts. The goal is to help you show up fully again, without forcing confidence or trying to be someone you’re not.

What This Coaching Is Not

This is not hype or motivational coaching, performance analysis, or therapy. It’s calm, direct coaching that removes what’s getting in the way of your natural ability. Therefore, you can perform with clarity, steadiness, and self-trust.

What we focus on during the process

While every athlete’s situation is different, most move through the same core shifts:

  • We reduce the overthinking that hijacks performance under pressure, so you can stay present and respond naturally again.

  • Mistakes stop feeling like a verdict on you — and start becoming useful information.

    Pressure drops. Hesitation softens.

  • We work directly with the inner voice that shows up when it counts — so it supports you instead of tightening the grip.

  • Not intensity. Not extremes. Small, realistic actions that rebuild trust in yourself over time.

  • So commitment feels grounded again — not forced or fear-driven. The goal isn’t to change who you are. It’s to remove what’s been quietly blocking your ability.

The turning point came when he realised that failure isn’t a verdict — it’s data. Every athlete fails. The difference is how you interpret it.

He stopped tying outcomes to his self-worth.

He stepped away from football for six months.

Ran alone.

Focused on the process of getting better rather than chasing results.

Committed to small, consistent improvements.

When he returned, sport felt different.

Enjoyment came back.

Presence returned.

Confidence was rebuilt through showing up — not proving anything.

The Inner Game Reset is built from that lived experience.

Ciarán’s story

Ciarán knows this pattern from the inside.

He played multiple sports growing up — basketball, soccer, rugby, gymnastics — but Gaelic football became his main focus. He played at club level from age five and went on to inter-county football at U20 and senior level.

Around his third year at inter-county level, something shifted ;

  • Pressure increased.

  • Expectations rose.

He became focused on reaching a specific outcome — and started measuring himself against it. The more he wanted it, the more afraid he became of not getting it. What he was really afraid of wasn’t failure but giving everything he had and still not being good enough.

Half-commitment became protection.

Holding back softened the emotional hit if things didn’t go his way.

Eventually, sport started to feel heavy.
